What is Tasbih?

Tasbih (Arabic: تسبيح) means glorifying Allah and is one of the most important forms of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) in Islam. After every obligatory prayer, it is recommended to say SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 33 times — a total of 99 repetitions, traditionally counted with prayer beads (Misbaha).

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever says SubhanAllah 33 times after every prayer, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 33 times — that is 99 — and to complete 100 says: La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir, his sins will be forgiven even if they were as much as the foam of the sea." (Sahih Muslim 597)
