What is the Qibla?
The Qibla (Arabic: قبلة) is the prayer direction that Muslims face during the ritual prayer (Salah). It points towards the Kaaba in the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia — the holiest site in Islam. Every Muslim in the world faces this direction during prayer, regardless of their location.
The exact Qibla direction is given as an azimuth angle and varies by location. From Germany, the Qibla is approximately 136° (southeast), from Indonesia approximately 295° (west-northwest). The NamazWorld Qibla Compass calculates the exact angle using the great circle method based on your GPS coordinates and the coordinates of the Kaaba (21.4225°N, 39.8262°E).
